Egypt launches creative park events to prevent addiction among youth

This Eid al-Adha, Egypt is taking meaningful strides in the fight against substance abuse! The Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Substance Abuse is rolling out an inspiring series of interactive awareness activities in public parks across the nation, designed especially for children and families. These activities–happening during the entire holiday period–are part of Egypt’s ongoing commitment to building a healthier, safer future for its citizens.

What makes this initiative truly special is its friendly, hands-on approach. Children will dive into creative workshops including drawing, coloring, and storytelling sessions, all cleverly tailored by age group to make learning both impactful and fun. Artistic and athletic performances, cultural events, and group games help boost self-confidence, sharpen thinking skills, and encourage teamwork—empowering kids to make healthy choices that steer them away from smoking and drugs.

Parents and children visiting parks can participate in lively role-play workshops, sports, and mental games. These sessions are designed not just to raise awareness, but also to help families develop practical decision-making skills. Engaging activities, such as the unique board game "Snakes & Smoke," highlight in playful ways how tobacco and drugs can hold us back, while healthy habits help us reach our goals and realize our dreams.

Importantly, the initiative extends its activities to newly developed communities, ensuring that all families—regardless of their neighborhood—have access to this vital support. Youth are invited to rethink misconceptions about smoking and drug use, with trained mentors ready to answer questions and encourage open discussion.

To ensure families have ongoing support, the initiative spotlights the 16023 hotline—a free, confidential resource offering consultation and treatment services. There’s a sincere focus on early intervention, and empowering families to spot signs of addiction before they become serious concerns.

Dr. Amr Othman, Director of the Fund, emphasized the importance of these continuous outreach programs as part of Egypt’s larger national strategy to prevent addiction. Similar successful programs have taken place in targeted villages and schools as part of the ambitious "Decent Life" presidential initiative.

Egypt’s creative and compassionate approach is a beacon for other nations aiming to protect their young people and inspire healthy generations to come. This effort shines especially bright during the joyous atmosphere of Eid—demonstrating that together, through fun, learning, and community spirit, we can build a better future free from addiction.
