Amman named Arab Youth Capital 2025
Amman, Jordan – In a vibrant celebration of unity and hope, ministers and youth leaders from across the Arab world gathered in the Jordanian capital for the official launch of Amman as the "Arab Youth Capital 2025."
The three-day festival, held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, also marked the unveiling of the Arab Youth, Peace, and Security Strategy for 2023-2028.
Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports and head of the Executive Office of Arab Youth and Sports Ministers, underscored the transformative role of youth in the region. “Arab youth are the cornerstone and future of our nations,” he declared, emphasizing the importance of empowering young people as active partners in decision-making.
Attendees included ministers and delegations from the UAE, Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, Somalia, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia, as well as representatives from the Arab League and United Nations organizations—affirming robust international support for Arab youth advancement.
“Launching the youth and peace strategy is a serious Arab effort to confront violence and extremism,” Dr. Sobhy said, highlighting Egypt’s leadership in youth empowerment through education, entrepreneurship, innovation, and volunteerism.
The handover ceremony also celebrated the passing of the symbolic “key” from Tripoli (the 2024 capital) to Amman, marking continuity in the tradition of empowering Arab youth leaders and fostering regional cooperation.
The festivities included a documentary presentation on the new strategy and a vocal performance featuring artists from across the Arab world, capturing the collective ambition for a safer, more prosperous future.
“Our youth deserve to be real partners in planning and implementation. We reaffirm our support for Jordan as it hosts this important year for Arab youth, and we all stand together to ensure our young people have the support, empowerment, and creative spaces they deserve,” Dr. Sobhy concluded.
The newly launched strategy will serve as a roadmap for enhancing youth participation, promoting peace, and countering extremism across the Arab region—signaling a renewed commitment to investing in young people as leaders of positive change.
