Egypt: No plans for power cuts, but energy saving encouraged

A spokesperson from Egypt's Ministry of Electricity, Mansour Abdelghani, has reassured the public that there is no intention to cut off electricity in any area, even though power usage has risen significantly with the arrival of summer and higher temperatures.

Speaking on a local TV program, Mr. Abdelghani explained that, due to the increased demand, the ministry is encouraging everyone to use electricity more wisely. This will help keep the electrical grid stable and reduce the risk of overload.

Some steps being taken include:

- Reducing street lighting by 30% after working hours,

- Turning off illuminated commercials,

- Adjusting air conditioning to 25°C to save energy.

He noted that nearly half of Egypt’s electricity is used in homes. So, using household appliances like fridges, air conditioners, and water heaters more efficiently is important. When possible, people are encouraged to use energy-saving appliances.

Mr. Abdelghani emphasized that saving electricity not only ensures steady service for everyone but also helps Egypt's economy by reducing costs.
