Egypt and South Sudan reaffirm commitment to strong ties and regional stability

Cairo — Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty, received a phone call on Monday from Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Sudan Mr. Monday Semaya Kumba. The two leaders discussed bilateral relations and key regional developments of mutual concern.


Minister Abdel Aaty reaffirmed Egypt’s deep interest in the security and stability of South Sudan, emphasizing the strength of cooperation between the two countries, especially in areas like education, agriculture, irrigation, and health. He noted the significant growth in Egyptian investment in South Sudan over the past decade and expressed hope for even stronger collaboration in the future.


The Egyptian minister voiced support for a peaceful political transition in South Sudan and called on all parties to prioritize national unity and benefit from international and regional support.


He also stressed the vital importance of Nile water to Egypt, hoping for constructive engagement from South Sudan in regional initiatives to ensure shared interests among Nile Basin countries.


Minister Kumba commended the historic bonds between South Sudan and Egypt, expressing South Sudan’s commitment to deepening cooperation in all fields. He also acknowledged Egypt’s concerns over Nile water, assuring readiness for positive dialogue and joint action.
