Canadian Ambassador highlights strong partnership with Egypt during cultural visit
Canadian Ambassador to Egypt, Ulric Shannon, has underscored the deep and friendly relationship between Canada and Egypt, describing Egypt as a key partner and a pillar of stability in the Middle East.
The ambassador expressed admiration for the long-standing cooperation between the two countries, which spans over 70 years and includes close collaboration in education, clean energy, and investment—particularly in mining.
During a visit to Egypt’s National Media Authority headquarters at Maspero, Ambassador Shannon toured the iconic Naguib Mahfouz Studio, a space celebrated for its unique views of both the Nile and the Pyramids.
He was warmly greeted by Ahmed Al-Muslimani, Chairman of the National Media Authority, who presented the Ambassador with a collection of classic songs by the renowned Egyptian singer Umm Kulthum, produced by the authority’s own record label, Sawt Al-Qahira.
Ambassador Shannon also appeared as a guest on Dr. Amr Mabrouk’s radio program “World of Knowledge” on the European Service, where he reiterated his admiration for the rich civilization and renowned hospitality of the Egyptian people.
He highlighted growing opportunities for Canadian investment in Egypt and praised the vibrant Egyptian-Canadian community of over 100,000 people in Canada. The Ambassador voiced support for deeper partnerships, such as creating an association for Egyptians who have studied in Canada to encourage further academic and economic exchange.
Ambassador Shannon also shared insights into Canada’s achievements in education, healthcare, and culture, mentioning national loves like ice hockey and world-famous Canadian literature. He noted Canada’s support for Egyptian tourism, with six weekly flights connecting the two nations.
The ambassador concluded by expressing his happiness at working in Egypt, praising its ancient heritage and the generosity and sophistication of its people.
