Giza Governorate, Cairo University sign protocol to sterilize stray dogs
Giza Governor, Adel El-Naggar, and Cairo University President, Dr. Mohamed Samy, witnessed the signing of a cooperation protocol between the governorate and the university. The agreement aims to spay and neuter stray dogs using scientific methods while maintaining the environmental balance.
The signing was attended by Vice Governor Mrs. Hend Abdel Halim, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Dr. Iman Bakr, representing the university, and Director of the Giza Veterinary Medicine Directorate Dr. Mohamed Faris, representing the governorate.
The governor stated that the protocol's goal is to combat the spread of stray dogs to ensure the health and safety of citizens and to implement Law No. 29 of 2023. The agreement focuses on performing sterilization operations while preserving the ecological balance.
El-Naggar added that under the protocol, the governorate will prepare the Imbaba clinics and designated shelters for the sterilization and vaccination of stray dogs. The governorate will also provide the necessary medications, supplies, and vaccines. In addition, it will hire trained dog catchers from the Veterinary Medicine Directorate to transport the dogs to the operating rooms and shelters in cooperation with civil society organizations.
The governor emphasized that the protocol reflects the Giza Governorate's commitment to using scientific methods to address the issue of stray dogs, ensuring the safety of citizens and maintaining the community's civilized appearance. He commended Cairo University and its Faculty of Veterinary Medicine for their leading role in supporting the governorate's efforts, confirming that there will be coordination with animal welfare associations.
The governor concluded that this cooperation reflects the ongoing partnership between the Giza Governorate and Cairo University in various fields that serve the citizens of Giza.
For his part, the President of Cairo University praised the ongoing cooperation with the Giza Governorate, affirming that the university is dedicating its scientific and research expertise to community service and that the protocol is a practical step to deal with this phenomenon in scientific and safe ways.
At the end of the signing ceremony, the Giza Governor and the Cairo University President exchanged commemorative shields to affirm the continuation of fruitful cooperation between the two sides.
