Sisi, Pezeshkian speak following nuclear pact

Cairo – President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt received a phone call today from Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, the newly elected President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The conversation highlighted a recent breakthrough in nuclear diplomacy between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), achieved with significant Egyptian mediation.

According to a statement from Presidential Spokesperson Mohamed El-Shenawy, President Pezeshkian expressed his deep appreciation for Egypt's pivotal role in facilitating dialogue between Iran and the IAEA. The Iranian President personally thanked President Sisi for his exceptional efforts in bringing the two sides together, culminating in the signing of a cooperation agreement in Cairo on September 9, 2025. The deal follows several months of Egyptian-mediated negotiations and is seen as a key step towards restoring cooperation and building trust on nuclear issues.

President Sisi congratulated his Iranian counterpart on the agreement, reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at de-escalation and stability in the region. He emphasized the importance of a constructive and serious dialogue among all parties involved in the Iranian nuclear file, calling for a quick return to negotiations to seek a peaceful resolution that guarantees regional security and prevents further escalation.

The two leaders also discussed pressing regional developments, particularly the ongoing crisis in the Gaza Strip. Both sides underscored the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire and an end to the ongoing humanitarian suffering. They expressed unequivocal opposition to any attempts to displace Palestinians and reiterated that a sustainable resolution in the region requires the implementation of a two-state solution, establishing an independent Palestinian state based on international legitimacy with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Finally, the call addressed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Egypt and Iran, aiming to serve the interests of both peoples and help foster regional peace and security.
