UN backs two-state solution, reaffirms support for Palestinian statehood
Cairo - Palestinian Ambassador to Egypt, Diab Al-Louh, welcomed the UN General Assembly’s adoption of the “New York Declaration” affirming a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The resolution underscores wide international support for the Palestinian people’s right to establish an independent, sovereign state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, living side by side with Israel and other regional nations.
Ambassador Al-Louh told The Middle East News Agency that this international backing blocks any attempts to undermine the initiative or disrupt the upcoming international conference in New York, set for September 22.
He highlighted that global determination remains strong to move forward with the vision for a two-state solution, and that the U.S. decision not to grant visas to Palestinian officials will not delay nor prevent the meeting.
He also noted that the UN resolution reflects shifting positions among key international players, especially many European countries, demonstrating the success of Palestinian and Arab diplomacy. Ambassador Al-Louh reiterated that this marks an important step toward ending the conflict, upholding Palestinian rights to self-determination, and establishing an independent state, as called for in international resolutions, notably Resolution 181.
