Egypt introduces self-service ticket machines at Saqqara archaeological site

Egypt has completed the installation and operation of new self-service ticket machines at the Saqqara archaeological site.

These machines allow both Egyptian and international visitors to conveniently purchase entry tickets using bank cards, helping to reduce queues at traditional ticket windows and enhancing the overall visitor experience with smart, modern services.

Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, explained that this service is a key component of Egypt’s integrated electronic ticketing system for museums and archaeological sites.

The Ministry plans to gradually expand the installation of these machines across other museums and archaeological sites nationwide, according to a set timeline, to further improve service quality and the tourist experience.

Dr. Mohamed Shabaan, Assistant Minister for Digital Services, confirmed that the machines accept only electronic payments via bank cards.

He also highlighted that the electronic ticketing system is accessible through the "Experience Egypt" mobile app (available on Play Store and App Store), as well as through a dedicated ticket center for tour operators.

So far, the electronic ticketing system has been activated at 110 museums and archaeological sites across Egypt, including the Giza Pyramids, the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, the Citadel of Salah El-Din, the Temple of Hatshepsut, Karnak Temple and the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, and Abu Simbel Temple in Aswan.
