Xi warns Gulf at critical juncture, urges immediate halt to hostilities
Chinese President Xi Jinping warned Wednesday that the situation in the Gulf region has reached a “critical juncture between war and peace,” urging an immediate halt to all hostilities.
Xi made the remarks during talks in Beijing with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is on a state visit to China.
The Chinese leader said all sides must avoid a resurgence of fighting and, “more importantly,” continue negotiations. An early end to the conflict, he added, would help ease disruptions to global energy supplies, industrial production chains and the international trading system.
Xi also recalled what he described as his “four proposals” aimed at safeguarding and promoting peace and stability in the Middle East, saying they were intended to build broader international consensus, help de-escalate tensions and support efforts to end the violence.
