Israeli strikes kill dozens in Gaza, including newborn, despite limited aid pause

Israeli airstrikes killed at least 36 people across Gaza on Monday, according to local health officials, just one day after Israel eased some restrictions on humanitarian aid amid an escalating crisis, the Associated Press reported.

Among the victims was a newborn delivered via emergency surgery after his mother—seven months pregnant—died in a strike, staff at Nasser Hospital said.

On Sunday, Israel announced a daily 10-hour pause in military operations in Gaza City, Deir al-Balah, and Muwasi, effective until further notice, to facilitate the delivery of aid and mark secure routes, as fears of widespread hunger in the territory mount.

Despite these new humanitarian measures, Israel stated it would continue its military campaign. The military did not immediately respond to questions regarding the most recent strikes, which occurred outside the daily pause period set from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Aid organizations have welcomed Israel’s new provisions, including the approval of aid airdrops, but warn these steps fall short of meeting the desperate needs of Palestinians facing intensifying hunger.
