Egypt’s top media regulators discuss closer coordination

The head of Egypt’s Supreme Media Regulatory Council met on Thursday with the newly appointed chairman of the State Information Service (SIS) to discuss strengthening coordination between the two bodies in shaping the country’s media messaging, the council said.

Khaled Abdel Aziz, chairman of the Supreme Media Regulatory Council, congratulated Ambassador Alaa Youssef on assuming his new post, praising the SIS’s role in presenting an accurate image of Egypt domestically and abroad and in maintaining dialogue with international media outlets.

Abdel Aziz stressed the importance of closer cooperation among institutions responsible for media affairs, saying the council is focused on deepening its partnership with the SIS in line with President Abdel Fattah al‑Sisi’s directives to unify and improve Egypt’s media messaging at home and overseas.

He said the current period requires increased coordination to regulate the media landscape, improve content quality and ensure adherence to professional standards, helping the sector counter misinformation and promote national values.

Youssef, for his part, thanked Abdel Aziz for the warm welcome and commended the council’s role in establishing professional guidelines that promote responsible and objective media practices, reinforcing the credibility of Egyptian media both locally and internationally.

He said the SIS is prioritising stronger engagement with foreign media and providing accurate information about Egypt abroad, noting that cooperation with the media council is essential to achieving these aims.

Both sides agreed to maintain ongoing consultation on issues of mutual concern to support Egypt’s media sector and improve the country’s image internationally, the statement added.
