Egypt wins Arab excellence award for digital vaccination system
Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population announced that its Preventive Medicine and Public Health Sector has won first place in the 4th Arab Government Excellence Awards 2025 under the category “Best Arab Initiative for Government Sector Development.”
The award recognizes Egypt’s groundbreaking project to fully digitize the national vaccination system, a pioneering model at both regional and global levels.
Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health, stated that this achievement is a direct result of the political leadership’s vision under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, which has placed health at the top of national priorities. He emphasized that digital transformation is now a cornerstone for ensuring accurate, rapid, and inclusive delivery of vaccination services to every citizen and resident in Egypt.
The Minister extended his gratitude to the Preventive Medicine team, the Ministry’s Information Center, the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, and international partners for their pivotal roles in this major national project.
Ministry spokesperson Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar highlighted that the expanded immunization program, powered by the new digital platform, has directly contributed to historic milestones, including:
- Egypt becoming the first country in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region to receive the Gold Tier certification for eliminating hepatitis B.
- Complete eradication of polio, measles, rubella, and neonatal tetanus.
Dr. Amr Kandil, Deputy Minister of Health, explained that the new system has successfully connected over 5,000 health units and vaccination centers into a unified electronic network. It features smart SMS reminders to mothers about their children’s vaccination schedules and provides real-time, accurate data that enables evidence-based strategic planning.
The Ministry affirmed that this award adds another landmark achievement to Egypt’s record in healthcare development and digital transformation, and pledged to continue its path of excellence toward greater regional and global leadership in public health.
