Egypt sends helicopters to support Cyprus in battling Limassol wildfires
During his official visit to Cyprus, Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Eng. Karim Badawi, visited the site of the recent wildfires near the southern coastal city of Limassol. The devastating fires have resulted in casualties, injuries among civilians, and the evacuation of several communities.
Responding swiftly to directions from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Egypt dispatched two specialized firefighting helicopters to Cyprus, which arrived on the same day to join the firefighting efforts. This aid marks the beginning of Egypt’s broader support to help Cyprus manage this emergency.
Minister Badawi extended heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Egyptian government to his Cypriot counterpart, Minister of Energy, Commerce, and Industry, Mr. George Papanastasiou, and to the Cypriot people. He emphasized Egypt’s readiness to provide all necessary technical and logistical assistance, reflecting the strong, strategic partnership between the two nations.
Minister Badawi also highlighted that Egypt’s ties with Cyprus go beyond economic cooperation—they are rooted in deep humanitarian and brotherly solidarity. He reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering commitment to standing by Cyprus in times of crisis and the importance of regional cooperation to respond swiftly and effectively to emergencies.
