Egypt’s President Sisi and UK’s PM Starmer discuss strengthening ties and Middle East peace

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call today from UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, as both leaders discussed strengthening the longstanding partnership between their countries. According to the official spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency, the conversation reaffirmed commitments to deepening economic, trade, tourism, and educational cooperation, alongside supporting joint investment ventures.

The two leaders also addressed pressing regional developments. President Sisi welcomed Prime Minister Starmer's recent statements expressing the United Kingdom's intentions to recognize the State of Palestine.

Both agreed that such a move would represent a positive step toward restoring the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, especially the establishment of an independent state based on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. President Sisi underlined that a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue—through the creation of this state—remains the only path to ensure lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.

During the call, President Sisi shared Egypt’s vision for de-escalating and ending the ongoing conflict in Gaza, emphasizing his country’s mediation efforts to achieve a ceasefire, accelerate humanitarian aid delivery, and secure the release of hostages and detainees. He also stressed the urgent need to begin Gaza’s reconstruction and reaffirmed Egypt’s firm stance against the displacement of Palestinians from their land.

The conversation highlights the close cooperation between Egypt and the United Kingdom in facing regional and global challenges together, and their shared commitment to peace and prosperity.
