Egypt and Indonesia eye deeper economic and investment cooperation
Egypt's Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Engineer Hassan El-Khatib, met with Indonesian Ambassador to Cairo, Lutfi Rauf, and his accompanying delegation to explore ways to bolster bilateral economic and investment ties.
In his opening remarks, Minister El-Khatib highlighted the notable progress in Egypt-Indonesia relations across various sectors.
He stressed the Egyptian government's commitment to broadening economic partnerships, aiming to boost bilateral trade volumes and attract joint investments.
The discussions covered opportunities in trade and investment, including the potential organization of joint business forums in Cairo and Jakarta. Such initiatives, he noted, would foster communication between the two countries' business communities and promote mutual investments.
El-Khatib emphasized the need for the upcoming phase to focus on clear implementation plans through joint working groups, ensuring tangible outcomes that benefit both nations' economies and support broader bilateral cooperation. He also pointed to Egypt's ongoing efforts to improve the investment climate, including infrastructure development and streamlined procedures for investors, which are designed to draw more foreign capital.
The minister welcomed expanded Indonesian investments in Egypt, describing the Egyptian market as a strategic gateway to Africa and the Middle East. This positioning, he added, would strengthen the two countries' roles as key regional partners.
For his part, Ambassador Rauf expressed Indonesia's keen interest in deepening partnerships with Egypt across multiple fields.
He noted that the delegation includes representatives from Indonesian economic institutions eager to expand their activities in the Egyptian market.
Rauf further suggested that collaboration between Jakarta and Cairo could serve as a model for economic integration among developing nations, leveraging Indonesia's extensive expertise to meet Egyptian market needs and foster long-term bilateral relations.
