Ministry investigates disappearance of ancient bracelet from Egyptian Museum

The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has launched a thorough investigation following the disappearance of an ancient bracelet from the restoration laboratory of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square.

Upon discovering the incident, the Ministry immediately referred the matter to police authorities and the public prosecution, taking all necessary legal precautions. Specialized committees have been formed to inventory and review all artifacts currently in the lab.

In a proactive move to recover the missing artifact, the Ministry has distributed images of the lost bracelet to archaeological units at airports, land crossings, and seaports across Egypt, ensuring all relevant authorities are vigilant and involved in the search process.

Ali Abdel Halim, Director-General of the Egyptian Museum at Tahrir, clarified that images circulating on news platforms and social media do not show the missing artifact. The items depicted are other bracelets currently on display in the museum’s second-floor galleries. The missing bracelet is a distinct gold piece with spherical lapis lazuli beads, part of King Amenemope’s collection from Egypt’s Third Intermediate Period.

The Ministry emphasized that the announcement of the incident was delayed to maintain the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

Egypt’s authorities reiterate their commitment to preserving the nation’s invaluable heritage and assure both national and international audiences that all efforts are being made to recover the precious artifact and uphold rigorous standards of museum security.
