Egypt, Arab leaders and Trump discuss efforts to ease tensions with Iran
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al‑Sisi took part late Saturday in a joint telephone call that brought together several Arab and regional leaders with US President Donald Trump, the Egyptian presidency said.
The call included Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al‑Khalifa, UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al‑Nahyan, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al‑Thani, Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, and Pakistan’s army chief General Asim Munir, presidency spokesman Mohamed El‑Shenawy said.
According to the spokesman, the leaders expressed appreciation for efforts by Trump and other parties seeking an agreement to end the conflict with Iran and restore stability in the Middle East. They urged the US president to continue what they described as his constructive leadership in pursuit of lasting peace and security in the region and beyond.
Sisi’s participation came as part of Egypt’s efforts to support regional stability and encourage progress toward a comprehensive and sustainable agreement between Washington and Tehran, the statement said. The Egyptian leader stressed the need to seize the current diplomatic opportunity to reach an accord that would end tensions and prevent renewed escalation. He affirmed Egypt’s readiness to provide full support to facilitate negotiations in coordination with regional partners.
The spokesman added that the leaders held a detailed exchange on current regional developments. Trump voiced appreciation for their engagement and for their coordination with the United States, emphasizing the importance of maintaining strong political cooperation with regional states.
The participating leaders underscored the need to safeguard regional stability and discussed ways to contain tensions and prevent further escalation. They agreed to intensify political consultations to support diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in the Middle East.
