Egypt to shine in ‘Power of Portraits’ exhibition in Rome as global interest grows
Egypt’s captivating legacy is set to grace Italy, as the Supreme Council of Antiquities proudly confirms participation in the upcoming exhibition, “The Power of Portraits: From Fayoum to Rome” at the prestigious Ara Pacis Museum in Rome.
Running from November 5, 2026, to May 2, 2027, this unique showcase will spotlight Egypt’s iconic Fayoum portraits, offering international visitors a rare journey through the rich dialogue between Egypt and the Roman world.
The announcement comes during a period of remarkable global engagement with Egypt’s heritage.
Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy, opened today’s Supreme Council of Antiquities meeting by sharing inspiring news: recent archaeological exhibitions abroad have attracted unprecedented numbers.
In Tokyo, over 70,000 guests visited “Ramses and the Gold of the Pharaohs” within four months, prompting a request to extend its stay through the end of the year. Meanwhile, Shanghai’s “On top of the Pyramid: Civilization of Ancient Egypt” has welcomed more than two million visitors since July—a powerful reminder of Egypt’s universal allure.
Beyond international exhibitions, Minister Fathy and the council celebrated new discoveries in Luxor, advances in restoring ancient temples and monuments, the return of significant artifacts from the United States, and growing revenues from cultural tourism. To further encourage learning, the council approved continued discounts for student entry at heritage sites and museums.
International collaboration remains at the heart of Egypt’s cultural mission, including upcoming agreements with Algeria and China for museum and archaeological partnerships.
With exhibitions like “The Power of Portraits” on the horizon, Egypt continues to bridge cultures, enchanting the world with its timeless artistry and stories—one portrait and discovery at a time.
