Turkish-Egyptian friendship celebrated with concert at Cairo Opera House

The Yunus Emre Institute in Cairo, the city’s Turkish cultural center, held a heartwarming musical concert titled “The Friendship Concert” at the Cairo Opera House last night.

The event, which also commemorated the 15th anniversary of the Yunus Emre Institute's founding in Cairo, brought together a diverse audience including Turkish Embassy advisers in Cairo, local artists, diplomats, academics, journalists, and students.

The concert featured a dazzling performance by the Turkish Music Ensemble from Ankara University of Music and Fine Arts. Attendees were treated to twelve classical Turkish songs, culminating with a lively rendition of a beloved song by celebrated Lebanese artist Fairuz, which drew enthusiastic applause from the audience.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Satiye Karaalioglu, Director of the Yunus Emre Institute in Cairo, emphasized the institute’s mission to build bridges of love and friendship across the world. She highlighted that Yunus Emre now has 92 centers in 68 countries, and Cairo’s institute is not only one of the oldest, but also the largest in terms of student enrollment—welcoming around 600 students per semester.

Ms. Karaalioglu also praised Egypt’s growing interest in the Turkish language, noting its popularity within Egyptian universities as a reflection of the deep friendship and strong cultural ties shared by both nations. “The voices of Egyptian and Arab musical legends, like Umm Kulthum and Fairuz, continue to resonate deeply with many Turks—even those unfamiliar with Arabic—proving that music truly transcends language and touches hearts,” she remarked warmly.

She concluded with heartfelt gratitude towards Egypt’s Ministry of Culture and the Cairo Opera House for their generous hosting and support of the musical celebration.

The concert not only showcased Turkish classical music, but also served as a touching testament to the enduring cultural and artistic exchange between the peoples of Egypt and Turkey, reminding all in attendance of the timeless power of music to unite across borders.
