Egypt and MedBot explore advanced medical technology partnership at Huawei Connect 2025
Shanghai – On the sidelines of Huawei Connect 2025, Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, met with executives from MedBot—a leading company in advanced medical technology and surgical robotics—to discuss collaboration opportunities aimed at advancing Egypt’s healthcare system.
The high-level meeting, hosted at the Shanghai World Expo Center, focused on leveraging the latest in robotic surgery and digital health technologies. Discussions centered around introducing state-of-the-art robotic surgical systems in university hospitals and specialized medical centers across Egypt, as well as the prospect of establishing local assembly lines or manufacturing components for surgical robots in cooperation with Egyptian partners.
One of the visionary proposals included the creation of a regional training center in Egypt to certify Egyptian surgeons and technicians on robotic surgery systems. This center, developed in partnership with MedBot experts and Egyptian academic institutions, will adhere to top international standards and enhance regional medical expertise.
The two parties explored the use of 5G-enabled tele-surgery solutions, facilitating remote surgical procedures and improving healthcare access for patients in rural and underserved communities. A dedicated platform could connect Egyptian hospitals with leading international medical centers, fostering knowledge exchange and strengthening Egypt’s position as a regional healthcare hub.
Joint research initiatives are also on the horizon, focusing on key fields such as oncology, hepatology, urology, and orthopedic surgery—areas where robotic solutions can deliver innovative and tailored healthcare for Egypt and the wider Middle East and Africa.
Discussions extended to integrating robotic surgery into Egypt’s universal health insurance system and the nation’s efforts to eliminate surgical waiting lists, ensuring that the latest technologies directly benefit Egyptian patients.
To support these advancements, plans for a local technical support center were raised, alongside academic partnerships involving workshops, scientific conferences, and exchange programs for surgeons and researchers.
Spokesperson Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar noted that the collaboration underscores Egypt’s commitment to modernizing its healthcare sector and strengthening its regional leadership in medical technology, ensuring better, more accessible care for all.
