Ambassador: China and Egypt deepen partnership in TEDA Economic Zone

As China’s Belt and Road Initiative intersects with Egypt’s ambitious Suez Canal Economic Belt, the China-Egypt TEDA Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone in Suez is emerging as a powerful platform for mutual growth and prosperity.

Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang stated that a flagship example of this partnership is the joint China-Egypt substation project, which has delivered a remarkable 16,000 gigawatt-hours of electricity to the region—significantly strengthening Egypt’s energy security and supporting its ongoing economic development.

“This project goes far beyond construction. It provides a foundation for long-term investment, advanced training, and the nurturing of future talent. Notably, over 97% of the workforce at the facility is Egyptian, with many local employees receiving specialized training in China,” he said.

“This has helped develop a strong, homegrown team of electrical engineers and technical experts, building valuable local capacity for years to come,” he added.

China’s involvement also includes the establishment of Egypt’s first ductile iron pipe production base within the TEDA zone—a significant contribution to the nation’s industrialization efforts. This facility is expected to save Egypt around $200 million in foreign currency annually, create over 500 local jobs, and boost domestic manufacturing.

“Thanks to the joint efforts of China and Egypt, the TEDA zone continues to deepen pragmatic cooperation, offering a compelling model for cross-border collaboration,” he wrote on his Facebook account.

“From energy security and skills-building to industrial development and economic benefits, the zone stands as a beacon of what international partnerships can achieve.”
