Egypt embarks on largest-ever national survey of nurseries to enhance early childhood development
In response to presidential directives emphasizing the importance of early childhood development, Egypt’s Ministry of Social Solidarity has launched an extensive training program for officials set to conduct the country’s most comprehensive national survey of nurseries and preschools.
The program, which prepares staff across all of Egypt’s governorates, aims to create the country’s most up-to-date and accurate database on facilities for children under four, both licensed and unlicensed.
This unprecedented survey seeks to transform early childhood planning by identifying service gaps, supporting the expansion of quality preschools in underserved areas, and promoting the licensing and upgrading of childcare centers nationwide.
Training is led by experts in childhood development and digital information systems.
“The launch of this national survey reflects our commitment to building a strong foundation for every child, supporting families, and empowering working mothers,” according to a statement from the Ministry.
“This initiative, the largest of its kind in methodology and geographic reach, will ensure a safer environment and better educational opportunities for Egypt’s youngest citizens.”
The survey will train and deploy over 1,000 social workers, empowered with modern digital data collection tools— including tablets and electronic forms— to gather detailed, real-time information reviewed by a central operations room at the ministry. Both regulated and unregulated nurseries will be included, with an eye to assisting those currently outside the formal system to meet standards and become licensed.
The results of the survey will help policymakers design targeted strategies to develop the childcare sector, improve quality standards, support families and working women, and shape a comprehensive development roadmap for early childhood care in Egypt.
This national initiative is expected to enhance Egypt’s efforts to provide safe, high-quality educational environments for all children and strengthen the country’s human capital for the future.
