Egypt prepares for International Youth Day with UNFPA
Egypt's Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, met with Mr. Yves Sassenrath, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Representative in Egypt, to discuss enhanced cooperation, particularly in preparation for International Youth Day, observed annually on August 12th.
The meeting underscored Egypt's commitment to empowering its youth and aligning with Egypt's Vision 2030. Dr. Sobhy emphasized the fruitful partnership with UNFPA, which directly contributes to strengthening the role of young people in national policies and programs.
During the meeting, held at the Ministry's headquarters, discussions focused on the proposed action plan for International Youth Day celebrations. This globally recognized observance, established by the UN General Assembly in 1999, aims to bring youth issues to the attention of the international community and celebrate the potential of youth as partners in today's global society.
The planned activities for this year's International Youth Day in Egypt will prioritize youth concerns and explore avenues for their empowerment across various fields, with a particular focus on reproductive health, community participation, and economic empowerment. The theme for International Youth Day 2025 is "Youth Advancing Multilateral Cooperation Through Technology and Partnerships," highlighting the vital role young people play in redefining global diplomacy and fostering collaboration.
Dr. Sobhy stated that International Youth Day serves as a crucial opportunity to highlight the energies of Egyptian youth and harness their capabilities as a primary factor in development. He reiterated, "We value our productive partnership with the United Nations Population Fund, which directly contributes to enhancing the role of youth in national policies and programs, in line with Egypt's Vision 2030."
Mr. Sassenrath, on behalf of UNFPA, expressed appreciation for the collaboration with the Ministry. He affirmed, "We are committed to working with the Ministry of Youth and Sports to ensure that this celebration is a true platform for the voice of youth, and an opportunity to empower them to lead positive change in their communities. These efforts are part of our shared commitment to achieving comprehensive development and leaving no one behind."
