El-Sisi and Italy’s Meloni meet in Sharm El-Sheikh to boost ties and support Gaza peace
Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi welcomed Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni today in Sharm El-Sheikh, on the sidelines of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit. The meeting was also attended by Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, and General Intelligence Chief, General Hassan Rashad.
During their meeting, President El-Sisi praised the ongoing progress in Egyptian-Italian relations, underlining the importance of further strengthening cooperation across various fields. He emphasized deepening partnerships in politics, trade, energy, agriculture, construction, tourism, and other sectors of mutual interest. Both leaders discussed ways to boost trade ties and facilitate communication between Egyptian and Italian business communities.
Prime Minister Meloni expressed her appreciation for the growing collaboration, highlighting Italy’s eagerness to build on the positive momentum in bilateral relations.
The leaders also addressed key regional issues, with Prime Minister Meloni acknowledging Egypt’s vital role in mediating efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza. She voiced Italy’s firm support for all measures aimed at bringing stability to the region.
President El-Sisi stressed the importance of the recent ceasefire agreement in Gaza, describing it as the culmination of Egypt’s intensive mediation efforts—carried out in partnership with Qatar and the United States—to end the humanitarian crisis. He highlighted the agreement’s significance in stopping hostilities, increasing humanitarian aid, facilitating the release of hostages and detainees, initiating reconstruction, and reviving hopes for an independent Palestinian state in line with international resolutions.
The meeting also touched upon Italy’s support for Egypt within the European Union. Both sides expressed hopes for a successful Egypt-EU meeting scheduled to take place in Brussels on October 22, 2025.
This high-level dialogue reflects the deepening ties and close cooperation between Egypt and Italy, and their shared commitment to peace, prosperity, and progress—both regionally and beyond.
