Egypt’s Sisi and Iran’s Pezeshkian discuss regional stability following missile strike on Qatar
Cairo, Egypt — President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt held a phone call today with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, as the region grapples with recent tensions.
According to a statement from the Egyptian Presidency, President El-Sisi firmly condemned the recent Iranian missile strike targeting Qatar, rejecting any actions that threaten the sovereignty of other nations—particularly those of fellow Arab and Islamic countries.
He also welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran, stressing the importance of maintaining and honoring this agreement to prevent further escalation that could have plunged the region into widespread violence and instability.
Presidential spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy added that the call included a review of Egypt's recent efforts—with an emphasis on coordination with the United States and other key players—to contain the crisis and restore calm to the region. President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s ongoing commitment to support all necessary measures to solidify the ceasefire and promote stability.
Both leaders agreed on the critical importance of pursuing comprehensive political solutions in this sensitive period, adopting approaches that account for all aspects of regional security. President El-Sisi and President Pezeshkian also underscored the need to resume negotiations between Washington and Tehran regarding Iran’s nuclear program, address non-proliferation concerns, and work towards establishing a Middle East free of weapons of mass destruction.
President Pezeshkian, for his part, thanked President El-Sisi for Egypt’s constructive role and prudent leadership in advancing stability and seeking to curb bloodshed across the region.
