Historic Partelli Cup handball tournament to debut in Egypt
A press conference was held in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital announcing that the prestigious Partelli Cup Handball Tournament will make its debut in Egypt in April 2026.
This marks the first time since its founding in Sweden in 1970 that the world-renowned youth tournament will be held outside its home country, highlighting Egypt’s growing stature in the global sports landscape.
The announcement event, held on the sidelines of the Club World Championship - Egypt 2025, was attended by prominent figures.
Adam El Zoghby, a former Egyptian national team and Al Ahly player and organizer of the Partelli Cup in Egypt, revealed the tournament will take place from April 9-12, 2026. Around 2,000 young male and female athletes from countries around the globe are expected to participate on the modern courts of the New Administrative Capital.
El Zoghby expressed his pride in bringing this historic youth championship to Egypt for the first time. He reminisced, “I was fortunate to play in the Bartelli Cup in Sweden as a child. It was an incredible opportunity to experience different cultures and the spirit of handball.”
The Partelli Cup is the world’s largest and most famous youth handball tournament, annually attracting approximately 1,400 teams from 50 nations, playing more than 5,000 matches and uniting young people across cultures on and off the field. The championship welcomes boys and girls between the ages of 9 and 18, and details on registration for Egypt 2026 will be announced soon.
Stefan Albertsson, founder of the Partelli Cup, shared his excitement, saying, “Egypt’s passion for handball inspired us to bring this event out of Sweden for the first time. We look forward to an unforgettable tournament in the heart of Cairo.”
Khaled Fathy, President of the Egyptian Handball Federation, highlighted the significance of hosting such a global event: “Expanding the base of participation is a key goal for us, and hosting the Partelli Cup allows Egyptian talents to learn from their peers worldwide, fostering inspiration and future success.”
Eng. Yasser Idris, President of the Egyptian Olympic Committee, added, “Handball has brought much joy to our sporting community. Hosting the Partelli Cup is not just a win for handball but a boost for Egyptian sports tourism and a testament to our leadership in hosting major international sports events.”
