Unlicensed car park attendant arrested in Cairo for extorting minibus drivers
Egyptian authorities have arrested a man in Cairo for unlawfully collecting money from public minibus drivers, following social media complaints and a viral video highlighting the incident.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Interior, security services identified and detained an unemployed individual who was allegedly seen extorting minibus drivers in the El Alf Maskan area, located in the Nozha district of the Egyptian capital.
The arrest came after a video circulated widely on social media, showing the suspect demanding and receiving illegal payments from the drivers. Police investigations led to the suspect’s identification and apprehension in the Ain Shams district.
Upon questioning, the man confessed to working as an unlicensed car park attendant, collecting unauthorized fees from drivers. Authorities have taken the necessary legal measures and referred the case to the Public Prosecution, which has launched a formal investigation.
The incident underscores ongoing efforts by Egyptian law enforcement to address unauthorized street operations and reinforce the rule of law in public transport hubs.
