Suez Canal Economic Zone launches investment promotion drive in Turkey
Istanbul - The General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) has embarked on its first official investment promotion tour in Turkey, aiming to attract leading Turkish businesses and foster stronger commercial ties between the two nations.
Led by Mr. Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairman of SCZone, the delegation is actively presenting the zone’s diverse investment opportunities to Turkish business leaders and high-level officials. The campaign highlights key sectors such as textiles and ready-made garments, packaging, building materials, ports, and logistics services, all targeted for localization and joint growth.
During the visit, Mr. Gamal El-Din held a roundtable with the Istanbul Textile and Raw Materials Exporters’ Association (İTKİB), which represents nearly half of Turkey’s total textile exports. He emphasized the long-standing partnership with the Turkish business community and SCZone’s success in attracting major Turkish investments—including nine industrial projects in the West Qantara Industrial Area alone, with a total value of $321 million, mostly in textiles and related industries. The Zone additionally hosts a Turkish-Egyptian logistics joint venture worth $2 million.
Mr. Gamal El-Din highlighted SCZone’s many competitive advantages for Turkish firms seeking global reach: direct and indirect investment incentives, a skilled technical workforce, reliable and affordable energy supply, and privileged access to international markets through an array of free trade agreements.
The SCZone chairman also conducted meetings with representatives of nine Turkish companies across a range of sectors:
- Ugur Plastik (plastic packaging solutions)
- Yunsa (Europe’s largest producer of worsted wool fabrics)
- Kale Group (a prominent Turkish ceramics and construction conglomerate)
- Vitra (luxury building interiors and furniture)
- Modern Karton (paper products using recycled materials)
- Nova Foam Solution (foam production for mattresses and insulation)
- Fixa (construction chemicals and waterproofing materials)
- Mercan Optics and ECB Optics (optical industries)
Discussions focused on encouraging these companies to deepen local production, support global supply chains, and boost exports from the region.
This promotional tour underscores the Suez Canal Economic Zone’s commitment to becoming a gateway for international manufacturing and trade—inviting Turkish expertise and innovation into the heart of a rapidly developing region.
