Egypt’s minister, international padel chief discuss boosting sport’s growth

Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports Gowhar Nabil met on Thursday with Luigi Carraro, president of the International Padel Federation, to discuss expanding the fast‑growing sport’s footprint in the country, the ministry said in a statement.

The meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters and attended by Egypt’s Padel Federation chief Ahmed Al‑Ghattouri, reviewed the rapid development of padel in Egypt and its leading role in Africa. According to the International Padel Federation, Egypt accounts for more than 40 percent of all padel courts on the continent and is the most represented African nation in the Junior World Cup, finishing eighth in the last edition.

Talks also covered preparations for Alexandria to host the first‑ever African Junior Championship in June 2026, as well as Egypt’s bid to include padel in the 2027 African Games. Officials additionally discussed Egypt’s interest in hosting the African Junior League finals and the 2027 Africa Cup, along with the 2027 General Assembly of the International Padel Federation — the first time the gathering would be held in Africa.

Nabil said the government places strong emphasis on expanding participation in padel and promoting the sport across all governorates, adding that Egypt has the capabilities to lead the game’s development regionally and internationally thanks to its rapid growth and solid organisational structure.

Carraro expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s growing interest in padel, saying he looked forward to deepening cooperation to support the sport’s expansion in line with international standards.
