Egypt marks 12 years since June 30 revolution, calls for regional peace

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi today addressed the nation on the 12th anniversary of the June 30 Revolution, recalling the 2013 popular uprising that dramatically reshaped the country’s political landscape.

The president underscored the unity and determination demonstrated by millions of Egyptians who, he said, reclaimed the nation’s identity, fought against the threat of terrorism, and set Egypt on a course towards development and stability.

President El-Sisi described the revolution as a pivotal moment in Egypt’s journey, “a national epic” that ended a period of unrest and marked the dawn of what he calls “the New Republic.” Since 2013, Egypt has prioritized reconstruction, the building of critical infrastructure, and economic growth. He acknowledged the sacrifices made in confronting terrorism and emphasized the achievements in national development and modernization.

“Our progress was not proclaimed in words or slogans,” El-Sisi said, “but in action and through real projects carried out by the hard-working people of Egypt.”

Amid ongoing conflicts across the Middle East and Africa, President El-Sisi highlighted Egypt’s ongoing commitment to peace and stability. He referenced the dire humanitarian situations in Gaza, Sudan, Libya, Syria, Yemen, and Somalia, expressing deep concern over civilian suffering and the devastation caused by war.

He appealed to all conflict parties and the international community to pursue wisdom and dialogue, advocating for an end to violence, occupation, and displacement. “Peace,” he stated, “is not born from bombing nor imposed by force, nor can it be achieved by normalization rejected by peoples. True peace is built on justice and understanding.”

El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s longstanding position that a just and lasting peace in the Middle East can only be achieved by establishing an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Addressing the Egyptian people, El-Sisi thanked them for their resilience during challenging times, calling them the “true backbone and shield of the nation.” He commended the sacrifices of the Egyptian armed forces and police in maintaining the country’s security, and expressed special gratitude toward the families of those who lost their lives in service.

“We are moving forward towards a better future for all Egyptians,” he said, “and easing the burden on citizens remains a top priority for the state, especially amid the difficult regional circumstances we face.”

In closing, President El-Sisi expressed unwavering faith in Egypt’s future and its people’s unity and aspirations. He honored the nation’s martyrs and pledged to continue working for a dignified and prosperous life for all Egyptians.

“Long live Egypt,” he declared, repeating the phrase three times as a message of perseverance and pride.
