Egypt, UAE ink deals to build regional energy logistics hub in Alamein

In a significant step to solidify Egypt's position as a regional hub for energy trade and distribution, Engineer Karim Badawi, Egypt's Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and Mohammed Saeed Al Dhanhani, Director of the Amiri Diwan in the Emirate of Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, oversaw the signing of key cooperation agreements today.

The deals focus on establishing a joint Egyptian stock company to develop a logistics zone for the storage and trading of crude oil and petroleum products in the Mediterranean basin, located in the Alamein area.

The flagship project involves the development of Hamra Port through collaboration and integration with the Fujairah Petroleum and Gas Corporation. It includes the transfer of expertise and the implementation of cutting-edge systems and technologies to enhance operational efficiency and elevate the port to global standards.

This initiative aligns with the regional cooperation pillar of Egypt's Ministry of Petroleum strategy, aimed at fostering international partnerships to leverage the country's infrastructure and strategic geographic location for economic gains in the energy sector.

In addition, the parties signed a contract for the storage of crude oil at the dedicated facilities of the Hamra Petroleum Port in New Alamein.

This agreement seeks to maximize economic returns from Egypt's infrastructure, in line with the ministry's second strategic axis, by capitalizing on the port's unique location and advanced facilities to position it as a key strategic center for crude oil storage and transportation.

A separate commercial agreement was also inked for the supply of petroleum products to the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC).

Following the signings, a bilateral meeting was held with representatives from both sides. Minister Badawi highlighted Egypt's eagerness to execute strategic projects that strengthen Egypt-UAE collaboration in the petroleum and gas sectors. On his part, HE Al Dhanhani emphasized the UAE's commitment to investing in Egypt's energy market and pursuing long-term strategic initiatives, reflecting the robust fraternal ties between the two nations.
