President Sisi meets IFC leaders to boost investment

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi welcomed Mr. Makhtar Diop, CEO of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), in Cairo today. 


The meeting was also attended by Mr. Ethiopis Tafara, Vice President of the IFC, and Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Egypt's Minister of Planning and Economic Development.


According to the official spokesperson of the Egyptian Presidency, President Sisi expressed his appreciation for the productive cooperation between Egypt and the IFC over the past years. 


He emphasized Egypt's desire to strengthen this partnership, particularly in light of current regional challenges that have a significant impact on development efforts. Mr. Diop also reaffirmed the IFC’s commitment to fruitful collaboration with Egypt.


The discussions focused on opportunities to attract more investment into Egypt and to facilitate financing for the private sector. President Sisi highlighted the importance of providing competitive financing to help reduce costs. He also explained Egypt’s commitment to implementing economic reforms and structural changes that support financial stability and economic growth.


President Sisi added that the government is working to expand the role of the private sector in economic development by offering tax and customs incentives, streamlining administrative procedures, and launching initiatives to increase exports and support productive and service activities. The government also aims to encourage more partnerships between the public and private sectors.


For his part, the CEO of the IFC praised Egypt's economic reforms, which have strengthened investor confidence and improved the investment climate. He confirmed that the IFC is committed to continuing joint programs to enhance cooperation and boost Egypt’s economic competitiveness.
