Suez Canal Economic Zone showcases investment opportunities during China visit

Hangzhou/Tongxiang — In a significant step towards boosting international economic cooperation, Mr. Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairman of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), led a distinguished delegation on a promotional tour across the Zhejiang Province of China, including the cities of Hangzhou and Tongxiang.

The visit is part of an integrated strategy to introduce global investors to the unique advantages and dynamic opportunities available within Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone.

Showcasing investment potential in Hangzhou

The day’s activities began in Hangzhou with a well-attended seminar under the theme, “Suez Canal Economic Zone: Proximity to Markets Paves the Way for Seamless Investment.” Senior government officials and leading representatives from Chinese companies were welcomed by Ms. Cheng Hui, Director General of Economic and Technology at the local government, who expressed the business community’s keen interest in the SCZONE’s promising prospects.

Mr. Gamal El-Din then outlined the SCZONE’s strategic geographic location at the crossroads of major global trade routes, complemented by advanced infrastructure and a package of competitive incentives. He emphasized, “The Suez Canal Economic Zone is an integrated industrial and logistics platform, ready to host projects of all sizes, supported by a modern infrastructure and flexible business environment.”

The seminar also spotlighted successful partnerships, such as the decorative textile and home furnishing production facility by Hightex—a project spanning 65,000sqm with an investment of $17 million, generating 300 direct jobs and oriented entirely towards export.

A lively discussion followed, with investors posing detailed questions on topics such as tax treatment for auto assembly activities, green hydrogen initiatives, industrial land availability, licensing processes, foreign workforce quotas, and the infrastructure in the integrated Sokhna Industrial Zone. Mr. Gamal El-Din assured participants that SCZONE offers a flexible customs regime, streamlined procedures, robust supply chains, and world-class logistics services that facilitate exports to Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.

Engaging with leading industrial groups in Tongxiang

The Egyptian delegation’s journey continued to Tongxiang, home to Zhenshi Holding Group and the globally renowned China Jushi Co., Ltd. During meetings with Mr. Zhang Yuqiang, Chairman of Zhenshi Holding, and Mr. Guoming Yang, Chairman of China Jushi, discussions centered around opportunities for integrated industrial complexes in the East Ismailia Industrial Zone. Zhenshi’s core businesses span specialty steel, nickel and iron, advanced composites for the wind energy sector, technological R&D, and logistics, and the group is exploring new investments to serve both local and international markets by leveraging the region’s competitive access to raw materials.

China Jushi’s own successful operation in the Sokhna Industrial Zone further highlighted the region’s potential. Their Egypt-based plant ranks as the world’s fourth-largest producer of fiberglass, exporting to international markets via SCZONE’s ports.

Exploring opportunities in the textile supply chain

The visit concluded with a tour of Xinfengming Group—one of China’s leading producers of polyester fibers. Executives presented the company’s evolution and plans for global expansion, while both parties discussed the prospects of establishing a production base within the SCZONE. Localizing polyester fiber manufacturing aims to strengthen the textiles sector, support ready-made garment projects, and supply critical industries such as automotive manufacturing.

Delegates had the opportunity to view Xinfengming’s state-of-the-art production lines firsthand, further underlining the alignment in industrial ambitions between both countries.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Gamal El-Din emphasized SCZONE’s commitment to providing a seamless, investor-friendly environment—welcoming all sectors with tailored incentives, transparent procedures, and a readiness that spans the spectrum from industry and logistics to renewable energy and advanced manufacturing. The Suez Canal Economic Zone continues to position itself as a gateway for Chinese and international investors keen to unlock new opportunities and access growing regional markets.
