Egypt, China sign deal to localize medical industries and expand exports

Cairo, Egypt – In a significant step toward advancing Africa’s healthcare sector, Egypt and China have announced a strategic joint venture to localize the manufacturing of medical technologies in Egypt.

The announcement was made during the opening of the fourth annual Africa Health ExCon 2025, a major regional medical conference held under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The agreement establishes the "Arab-Chinese Company for Medical Industries," a new enterprise co-founded by Egypt’s Arab Organization for Industrialization and China’s leading medical technology firm, XGY. The partnership contract was signed by Lieutenant General Mokhtar Abdel Latif, Chairman of the Arab Organization for Industrialization, and Dr. Jiao Da Tian, Chairman of XGY.

This exciting collaboration is designed to foster the local production of a range of essential medical equipment, beginning with diagnostic and therapeutic imaging devices. The initiative will also support the “Made in Egypt” vision by increasing the proportion of domestically sourced components, offering specialized training programs, and providing world-class maintenance services and spare parts.

Both Egyptian and Chinese officials emphasized the importance of technology transfer and high standards of manufacturing quality, stating their shared ambition to export Egyptian-made medical products to African and global markets.

As part of the event, the delegation toured the Arab Organization for Industrialization’s exhibit, showcasing advanced products such as artificial joints, MRI machines, safety syringes, and innovative clinic equipment—all proudly manufactured in Egypt.

This partnership reflects a growing focus on regional self-sufficiency and international cooperation, positioning Egypt as a vibrant hub for medical innovation serving Africa and beyond.
