Egypt and Germany expand partnership to enhance technical education

In a significant step towards improving opportunities for young people and strengthening vocational education in Egypt, Minister of Education and Technical Education, Dr. Mohamed Abdel Latif, recently welcomed Mr. Andreas Adrian, Coordinator of the Technical Education and Labour Market Group at the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), along with his distinguished delegation.

During the meeting, both sides discussed ways to deepen their cooperation in the development of technical and vocational education in Egypt, with a focus on establishing new schools modeled after the high standards of German technical education, in collaboration with GIZ.

Minister Abdel Latif praised the longstanding partnership with GIZ, highlighting its vital role in supporting the Egyptian government’s efforts to improve technical education.

He noted the agency’s contributions to curriculum development, teacher and administrator training, implementing systems for quality assurance, and fostering connections with the private sector to ensure practical training opportunities. These initiatives aim to enhance the skills of Egyptian graduates and better prepare them for the local and international job markets.

Looking ahead, the Minister expressed eagerness to broaden cooperation with GIZ, particularly by involving German private sector partners in creating new German-style vocational schools.

This, he explained, would further empower students with practical skills and open more employment prospects, boosting Egypt’s competitiveness on a global scale.

Mr. Andreas Adrian reaffirmed that Egypt is a priority country in GIZ’s strategy for supporting technical education. He emphasized ongoing efforts to ensure high standards in school management, teacher training, and digital transformation—a key step towards future-ready education.

The talks also covered joint projects such as the Employment Promotion Project (EPP) and Centers of Competence (CoCs), which serve as sustainable models of public-private partnership for advancing vocational training and bridging the gap between education and industry needs.

In addition, the conversations addressed the importance of digital transformation and supporting green economy initiatives within technical education.

Ministerial advisors and senior officials from both sides attended the meeting, agreeing on the importance of continuous coordination and expanding partnerships with the private sector. Both parties reiterated their commitment to ensuring the quality and sustainability of Egypt’s technical education system, promising a brighter future for Egyptian youth.
