Egypt and Turkey strengthen bilateral ties, discuss regional issues

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi welcomed Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan today in a meeting attended by Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty. The visit underscores the growing momentum in Egypt-Turkey relations, with both nations committed to deepening their strategic partnership.

According to the Egyptian Presidency’s spokesperson, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, Minister Fidan conveyed greetings from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. President El-Sisi expressed appreciation for the gesture and emphasized the importance of advancing bilateral ties. He highlighted the significant progress in relations, particularly following the February 2024 joint declaration to reactivate the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, now elevated to a presidential level.

The meeting focused on boosting economic cooperation, with both sides aiming to increase bilateral trade to $15 billion, as agreed during President El-Sisi’s visit to Ankara in September 2024. Discussions also emphasized expanding Turkish companies’ participation in investment projects in Egypt.

On regional issues, the leaders addressed the crisis in Gaza, reaffirming their rejection of any reoccupation of the territory and calling for an immediate ceasefire, humanitarian aid access, and the release of hostages and prisoners. They also opposed any displacement of Palestinians. The talks covered developments in Libya, Syria, and Sudan, with President El-Sisi outlining Egypt’s vision for peace and stability in these countries, stressing respect for their sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The meeting reflects Egypt and Turkey’s shared commitment to fostering regional stability and strengthening their economic and diplomatic partnership.
