Egypt welcomes US-brokered ceasefire between Iran and Israel

Cairo – Egypt has officially welcomed the announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding a ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel, reached on June 24, 2025.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt described the development as a vital step towards containing the dangerous escalation witnessed in the region over recent days.

The Egyptian government emphasized that this ceasefire marks a significant turning point, offering hope for ending military confrontations between the two countries and restoring calm across the region.

Egypt urged both Iran and Israel to fully adhere to the ceasefire commitments, exercise maximum restraint during this sensitive period, and take constructive steps to de-escalate tensions, thereby safeguarding regional security and the wellbeing of all people living there.

Recognizing the ceasefire as a crucial opportunity to break the cycle of escalation and retaliatory attacks, Egypt reaffirmed its ongoing diplomatic efforts to promote peace.

Over recent weeks, Egypt has maintained intensive direct contacts with all relevant regional and international parties—including those involved in the conflict—to work toward de-escalation and a sustainable end to hostilities.

Egypt reiterated that its diplomatic engagement will continue, in close coordination with regional and international partners, to uphold the ceasefire and support broader peace initiatives.

The government stressed that achieving a just and comprehensive settlement to the Palestinian issue remains central to lasting security and stability—not only in the region, but globally.

Egypt reaffirmed its longstanding position that the only viable path to peace is the creation of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
