Egypt, Turkey push toward strategic transport and logistics cooperation
Egypt’s Transport Minister Kamel al‑Wazir met Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz in Istanbul on Friday on the sidelines of the 5th Turkish Maritime Summit, underscoring what he described as rapidly strengthening ties between the two countries and a push toward strategic cooperation in transport and logistics.
According to a statement from Egypt’s Ministry of Transport, al‑Wazir conveyed greetings from President Abdel Fattah al‑Sisi to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and congratulated Ankara on what he called the “strong success” of the summit, praising its organisation and broad international participation.
Al‑Wazir said Egyptian‑Turkish relations were witnessing accelerated development driven by the political will of both countries’ leaders. He added that this momentum was opening new paths for economic and investment cooperation, particularly in transport and logistics, in ways that would serve “the shared interests of the two friendly peoples.”
He highlighted that cooperation had entered a “more effective” phase following the recent joint signing of an agreement on international corridors and logistics services. The deal, he said, represents a strategic step toward strengthening connectivity, boosting trade flows, integrating supply chains, and leveraging the strategic geographic positions of both nations as regional and global trade hubs.
Yilmaz, for his part, conveyed President Erdogan’s greetings to President Sisi and expressed appreciation for Egypt’s participation in the summit. He affirmed Turkey’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Egypt across multiple fields, especially transport and logistics, in support of sustainable development and the two countries’ roles as regional centres for trade and transport.
