Alexandria’s Maamoura set for sustainable revival

Alexandria’s Maamoura set for sustainable revival

On the golden shores of Egypt’s Mediterranean coast, a new chapter is unfolding for the historic Maamoura district of Alexandria. With a vision to restore its former glory and transform it into a model of sustainable tourism and investment, Egypt’s Minister of Public Business Sector, Mohamed Shimi, and Alexandria Governor Ahmed Khaled recently embarked on an in-depth field tour of the area, unveiling ambitious plans to renew this beloved destination.

Maamoura has long held a special place in Egyptian hearts—a destination for summer escapes and memories spanning generations. Now, the government is embracing the task of modernization, while protecting Maamoura’s unique coastal charm.

Minister Shimi shared that the goal is to present Maamoura “in a way that honors its history and status, turning it into a permanent tourism and investment hub that aligns with the highest standards of quality and environmental sustainability.”

Visitors in the near future can expect sweeping enhancements: upgraded beaches, renovated main gates, and a vibrant blend of new leisure, entertainment, and hospitality facilities—all designed to welcome both locals and guests from around the world.

The recent tour included stops at Maamoura’s scenic beach, an improved tourist promenade, newly refurbished company-owned chalets, and the iconic Paradise Inn Hotel. Officials also reviewed key sites set to become modern tourist, residential, commercial, and recreational complexes, signaling a bright and cosmopolitan future for the district.

Governor Ahmed Khaled emphasized the province’s full support for this transformation, assuring that Alexandria’s administration will facilitate every step of the process—from fast-tracking approvals to providing essential infrastructure and services.

The development program, led by Maamoura Development Company under the Ministry’s umbrella, is already bearing fruit. Projects like “Maamoura Lavi” and “Maamoura Riviera” are bringing new life to the area, while ventures in 6th of October City and along Egypt’s North Coast point to a broader wave of real estate and tourism growth.

“We’re harnessing Maamoura’s natural beauty together with advanced infrastructure and services,” Shimi noted. “It’s about creating a sustainable magnet for tourism and investment that pays tribute to the past while building opportunities for the future.”

This initiative forms a cornerstone of Egypt’s “Vision 2030” sustainable development strategy—an ambitious blueprint to maximize returns from public assets and stimulate both economic growth and community prosperity.

As Maamoura readies itself for this hopeful renaissance, the world is invited to rediscover Alexandria’s radiant coastline. The promise: a place where history meets innovation, and where every visitor is welcomed with open arms.
