Egypt FM meets EU envoy to urge Gaza ceasefire
Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty, met Sunday with Christophe Bigot, the European Union’s Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process, to discuss urgent efforts to broker a ceasefire in Gaza.
According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, Abdel Aaty outlined Egypt’s ongoing collaboration with Qatar and the United States to achieve a truce, facilitate hostage and prisoner exchanges, and ensure sustained humanitarian aid access to Gaza.
He highlighted the deepening humanitarian crisis caused by ongoing Israeli military operations and repeated Israel’s obstruction of aid delivery.
Minister Abdel Aaty emphasized Egypt’s firm rejection of any forced displacement of Palestinians, and expressed hope that Cairo would soon host an international conference on Gaza’s recovery and reconstruction, once a ceasefire is in place.
He also voiced grave concern about rising violence in the West Bank, calling for an end to Israeli military actions and settler attacks on Palestinians.
Looking ahead, Abdel Aaty welcomed plans for an international peace conference—led jointly by France and Saudi Arabia—to revive a two-state solution.
He reiterated Egypt’s call for broader international recognition of Palestinian statehood along the June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, as the path to lasting regional peace and stability.
