Hydelec finishes 93km power lines for Egypt’s Delta expansion

In a significant step toward supporting Egypt’s national infrastructure and food security ambitions, the High Dam for Electrical and Industrial Projects Company (Hydelec) has successfully completed a major electricity transmission project for the “New Delta” initiative, finishing the work in just four months—a remarkably short timeframe for a project of this scale.

Hydelec, a subsidiary of the state-owned Construction and Development Holding Company under the Ministry of Public Enterprises, has connected three key electrical lines totaling 93.3 kilometers. These high-voltage lines will supply power to “Mostakbal Misr” (Egypt’s Future) pumping stations, a vital part of the broader New Delta agricultural development plan.

The completed lines include the Rasheed (2-5) line (1.3 km), the ND5/ND6 line (37 km), and the ND6/ND7 line (55 km), all operating at 220 kilovolts. The work comprised the full spectrum—design, civil works, tower installation, conductor stringing, and final commissioning—in cooperation with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company.

Minister of Public Enterprises, Eng. Mohamed Shimi, praised Hydelec’s achievement, highlighting the company’s professionalism, efficiency, and its crucial role in advancing Egypt’s major national development projects. “This successful completion not only demonstrates the capabilities of our public enterprises’ subsidiaries, but also supports the state’s strategy to strengthen food security and agricultural expansion through the New Delta project,” he noted. The minister also commended the efforts and expertise of Hydelec’s workforce and reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting its affiliated companies’ growth and competitiveness both domestically and internationally.

Founded in 1971, Hydelec stands as one of Egypt’s leading engineering firms, with a long record in building power lines, generation and transformer stations, electromechanical systems, medium and low voltage networks, and electricity transmission infrastructure. The company has grown significantly in recent years, expanding into renewable energy, telecommunications, and heavy transport projects—including ventures beyond Egypt’s borders—a testament to its rising profile and technical capabilities.

The completion of this electricity transmission project not only meets immediate infrastructure needs for one of Egypt’s strategic development zones but also sets a benchmark in timely and efficient project delivery, underscoring Egypt’s drive for modernization and sustainable growth.
