Egypt empowers African energy leaders with advanced training in smart grids and green hydrogen

In a significant step toward fostering regional collaboration and sustainable development, Egypt has celebrated the graduation of 31 electricity professionals from several African Sahel and Sahara countries.

The graduates successfully completed specialized training programs in the use of SCADA systems for electricity distribution networks and low-carbon hydrogen technologies.

At a ceremony attended by Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, and dignitaries from the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company and the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD), participants from Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, and Niger were honored for their achievement.

Dr. Esmat emphasized the Egyptian government’s commitment to supporting African partners, especially in capacity-building and technical skill development, underscoring Egypt’s willingness to share expertise for mutual benefit. "We continually strive for joint action to meet the region’s shared challenges and ambitions for sustainable development," he said.

The training initiative covered not only the technical aspects of smart energy grids and real-world application of SCADA systems but also included vital modules on cybersecurity and practical field visits. Regarding green hydrogen, participants explored global best practices, the latest in hydrogen production technologies, and safety protocols, drawing comparisons with policies from the European Union, United States, MENA, and Asia.

The programs are part of a broader Egyptian vision to strengthen partnerships and knowledge transfer across Africa. Graduates expressed their deep appreciation for the quality of training and Egypt’s leadership, pledging to apply their new skills to enhance power infrastructure and stability in their home countries.

Egypt’s initiative highlights its ongoing role in uniting African nations through knowledge sharing, innovation, and a common commitment to a brighter, more sustainable future.
