Egypt hosts Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly with 43 nations participating

Sharm El-Sheikh — Egypt will host the meetings of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PA-UfM) in the coastal city of Sharm El-Sheikh from September 11th to 14th. The event, chaired by Mohamed Abou El-Enein, Deputy Speaker of Egypt’s House of Representatives and President of the Assembly, brings together parliamentary leaders and delegations from around 43 countries, alongside substantial coverage from regional and international media.

The meetings will be inaugurated by Dr. Hanafy El-Gebaly, Speaker of Egypt’s House of Representatives, who will welcome delegates and highlight the country’s ongoing commitment to parliamentary diplomacy and regional partnership. Mohamed Abou El-Enein is set to outline a roadmap for discussion, focusing on pressing issues affecting the Mediterranean region.

Key topics on the agenda include strategies to address sensitive challenges in the Mediterranean, fostering closer economic and cultural cooperation, empowering youth from both northern and southern shores of the Mediterranean, and exploring the transformative role of modern technology and artificial intelligence in building new bridges of collaboration.

In addition to a plenary session, specialized committees—covering political, economic, social, and environmental affairs—will convene to discuss recommendations and craft a final statement to be adopted at the conclusion of the meetings on Sunday.

The event is not only a platform for dialogue and future planning but also an opportunity for cultural exchange. The parliamentary delegations will embark on visits to significant Egyptian heritage sites, such as St. Catherine’s Monastery, one of the country’s most renowned religious landmarks, as well as enjoy a scenic maritime tour along the shores of Sharm El-Sheikh. These activities aim to highlight Egypt’s rich tourism sector and continuous development in a wide variety of fields.

By hosting this important international gathering, Egypt continues to affirm its leading role in promoting dialogue, peace, and partnership throughout the Euro-Mediterranean region.
