Egypt, Qatar coordinate efforts for peace in Gaza, broader Middle East after air base incident
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a telephone conversation today with His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar.
According to a statement from the Egyptian presidency, President Sisi expressed Egypt’s firm condemnation and complete rejection of any violation of Qatar’s sovereignty, following recent Iranian attacks on the Al Udeid Air Base.President Sisi also praised the wisdom and leadership demonstrated by the Qatari emir in handling this crisis.
The official spokesperson, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, added that President Sisi commended the capabilities of Qatar’s military, particularly the effectiveness of its air defense systems in confronting the Iranian assault, and highlighted their vital role in protecting Qatar’s security and sovereignty.
During the call, the two leaders also discussed the latest developments in the Middle East, agreeing on the importance of ongoing regional efforts to establish peace. This included a discussion of the current ceasefire between Iran and Israel, as well as continued Egyptian-Qatari coordination towards de-escalation and a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
This exchange reflects the strengthening partnership between Egypt and Qatar amid growing regional challenges and underscores both nations’ commitment to stability and security in the Middle East.
