Egypt FM, US Congressman discuss boosting strategic partnership, regional tensions
Egypt’s foreign minister met Monday with US Congressman Abraham Hamadeh, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, for talks on bilateral ties and regional developments, the Foreign Ministry said.
Ministry spokesman Tamim Khalaf said the meeting between Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Hamadeh focused on strengthening the US‑Egypt strategic partnership and expanding political, economic and security cooperation. Abdelatty voiced Cairo’s interest in maintaining close engagement with Congress to advance shared interests, the statement said.
On regional issues, Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s role in supporting stability in the Middle East, including efforts to ease current tensions and back diplomatic channels in US‑Iran discussions. He also reviewed developments in the Israeli‑Palestinian conflict, presenting Egypt’s position on the situation in Gaza and the West Bank and highlighting Cairo’s efforts to support regional stability.
Hamadeh expressed appreciation for the “close strategic partnership” between Washington and Cairo and affirmed his commitment to advancing cooperation and coordination on issues of mutual concern, the ministry added.
