Cairo urges restraint amid rising tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan
Egypt expressed deep concern over escalating tensions and recent border clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan, which on Thursday resulted in casualties on both sides.
In a statement released Friday, Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and emphasized the need for diplomatic efforts to defuse the situation and prevent further escalation.
Cairo stressed that political and diplomatic solutions remain essential for maintaining regional security and stability.
As part of Egypt’s follow‑up on the developments and its efforts to encourage de‑escalation, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Friday with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. Dar briefed Abdelatty on the circumstances and latest developments along the border.
Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s deep concern over the recent clashes and called for calm, restraint, and steps that would help reduce tensions and prevent further instability in the region.
