Tom Cruise to be honored with his first-ever Oscar
Tom Cruise, the renowned American actor and producer, is set to receive an honorary Oscar ahead of the 2026 Academy Awards, event organizers announced—a milestone first in his illustrious career.
According to AFP, Cruise will be presented with the prestigious statuette in recognition of his outstanding contributions to cinema, alongside choreographer Debbie Allen and production designer Wynn Thomas.
Country music legend Dolly Parton will also be honored at the Academy’s 16th Governors Awards ceremony in November, accepting the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for her extensive philanthropic endeavors.
At 62, Cruise has garnered four Academy Award nominations but has never secured an Oscar, despite achieving global stardom for his performances in blockbuster franchises like “Mission: Impossible” and “Top Gun.”
“The Academy is inspired by Tom Cruise’s unwavering dedication to the art of filmmaking, the moviegoing experience, and the world of stunts,” organizers said in a statement.
They described Cruise as “one of the most iconic and highest-grossing actors in history,” highlighting his well-known practice of performing his own stunts.
Debbie Allen, 75, was commended for her distinguished five-decade career, which includes choreographing the Oscars ceremony seven times and working on films such as the 1995 romantic comedy “Forget Paris.”
Wynn Thomas was also recognized for his influential production design work on acclaimed films like “Malcolm X” and “Do the Right Thing.”
