Egypt’s PM inspects Alexandria Corniche facade restoration
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly visited Alexandria today to inspect ongoing upgrades to building facades along the city’s iconic Corniche, emphasizing both heritage preservation and public safety.
During his tour, Prime Minister Madbouly highlighted the importance of completing the project according to high standards using weather-resistant materials, to maintain the improvements for years to come and avoid frequent repairs. He stressed that the initiative will enhance the waterfront’s visual appeal while preserving Alexandria’s unique architectural identity.
From a vantage point near Cleopatra district, the Prime Minister received a detailed briefing from Alexandria Governor Ahmed Khaled Hassan Said.
The facade restoration project, carried out by the prominent Arab Contractors Company, covers multiple neighborhoods, including El-Gomrok, Central, East, Montaza 1, and Montaza 2.
The project involves restoring and upgrading the facades of 44 buildings: categorized as severely, moderately, or lightly damaged, with priority given to the most vulnerable 30 structures. Work includes replacing dilapidated sections and strengthening concrete elements, all while maintaining each building’s historical character.
Project managers have also noted that, beyond beautification, the renovations will help prevent potential dangers caused by crumbling facades, thus improving safety for residents and visitors. The team is also restoring several historic properties elsewhere in Alexandria.
Prime Minister Madbouly discussed technical observations with engineers on site and inquired about the project’s completion date. Contractors confirmed that the targeted restoration is scheduled for completion by May 2026.
The project demonstrates Egypt’s commitment to safeguarding its ancient cities while improving urban landscapes and quality of life for communities along the Mediterranean coast.
