Egypt and Russia explore major new aluminium industry partnership

Leading Egyptian and Russian companies in aluminium production are exploring new avenues for cooperation and partnership on ambitious projects.

On Sunday, Egypt’s Minister of Public Business Sector, Eng. Mohamed Shemy, held talks in Cairo with a delegation led by Russia’s RUSAL Group—one of the world’s largest and most respected aluminium producers—alongside UAE-based Fleet Energy, according to RT.

In what was the third round of discussions, the parties reviewed technical and economic studies prepared by RUSAL outlining opportunities for collaboration with Egyptalum, a major national aluminium producer and a key subsidiary of the Metallurgical Industries Holding Company.

Minister Shemy emphasized Egypt’s commitment to building lasting partnerships with leading global industrial firms, incorporating the latest production technologies, and supporting domestic industry growth. He highlighted the country’s efforts to expand output, boost competitiveness, and attract more foreign investment as part of Egypt’s broader economic strategy.

This meeting is part of ongoing discussions between the ministry and international companies to explore investment and partnership opportunities across vital sectors, especially those with strong potential for growth and competitive advantage.

Egypt and Russia already enjoy a robust industrial relationship, exemplified by the Russian Industrial Zone under development in the Suez Canal Economic Zone—a strategic hub for manufacturing Russian products for Egyptian, African, and Middle Eastern markets. The new zone is expected to host a variety of projects, including a major aluminium production complex.

In previous meetings, both sides discussed technology transfer, expertise-sharing, and investment opportunities in Egypt’s industrial sector, including plans at Egyptalum to expand production capacity and introduce new products such as aluminium wires, automotive wheels, and aluminium foil—helping boost local industry, support the national economy, and reduce imports.
